The Inauguration Festival of Sri Sri Guru Gaurachandra

Posted by Vrinda Devi Dasi on Monday, August 20th, 2012 in Events | Comments (0)
Vrinda Devi Dasi

On Sunday August 5th, Sri Sri Guru Gaurachandra made Their auspicious appearance at our Salt Lake City Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Mission. By His causeless mercy many devotees came from all around to participate in the beautiful festival. A large group of devotees came from the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Seva Ashram in Soquel and San Jose, and all around the U.S.A, Canada and Mexico.

Srila Janardan Maharaj, Srila Ashram Maharaj and Sripad Parvat Maharaj

By Srila Acharya Maharaj’s arrangement, Srila Janardan Maharaj, Srila Ashram Maharaj and Sripad Parvat Maharaj presided over the installation and participated in many programs. Sripad Ramai Archana Niketan Prabhu was the presiding Pujari. He came for three days to participate in the festival, in one of the few times he has left the Soquel Seva Ashram.

All the devotees at our Salt Lake City Mission went out of their way to make each and every guest welcome. They extended to everybody the opportunity to have some Seva (service) and participate in this wonderful pastime of Sri Gaurachandra. This was such a beautiful quality of this festival. Everybody had some opportunity to participate, and everything went on in such a harmonious way. Indeed it seemed like we were serving at home.

Friday before the Inauguration day there was Harinam Sankirtan and prasadam distribution at a park by the Math. And Saturday all the devotees went on Harinam downtown by the main Mormon temple in the city, only to return to the temple to keep going with the preparations for the next day. In this way many garlands were strung and many preparations were made in the kitchen for Sunday.

Their Lordships’ offering

Then on the Inauguration day, there was a beautiful Kirtan and class. The prasadam offering had so many wonderful dishes including rice, dahl, koftas in tomato sauce, paneer steaks, paneer and cauliflower subji, bitter melon with potato subji, okra, begun bhaja, samosas, iddlis, tamarind chutney, coconut chutney, plum chutney, cilantro chutney, rasagullas, chocolate-mint fudge, saffron-walnut sweet rice, saffron-banana khir, sandesh, coconut cake…and even more! Sripad Ramai Prabhu and Srimati Sri Lekha didi were in charge of the preparations on the Altar, with help from Rai Kishori, Ashapurna and Jaya Shree didis.

When the curtains were drawn and Sri Sri Guru Gaurachandra made His beautiful appearance everybody was ecstatic to participate in the Arotik. It was really an amazing sight to behold!

Sri Sri Guru Gaurachandra

We have heard that Param Guru Maharaj, Srila Sridhar Maharaj, said: “When the Absolute is distributing Himself, He becomes Sri Chaitanyadev. And that Sri Chaitanyadev in the highest stage of His mercy is found here in Koladvipa… Without considering any crime, He absolved whoever He found. He accepted them all. After sannyas, when He returned to Bengal with the intention of going to Vrindavana, He showed His most generous and dignified temperament at that time. He recruited the sinners of the world. Anyone who came to Him received the highest mercy. This is the specialty of this place. By ‘place’ we should not think of a mere geographical location. Of course, it has such a location, but really this is where the Most Generous Absolute gave Himself to the worst sinners. Here, even the most fallen souls receive the grace of the Lord.”

By the mercy of our Guru Varga that same Mahaprabhu from Nabadwip has manifested Himself at our Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Mission. That same merciful spotless moon Gaurachandra appeared in Salt Lake City bringing joy to the hearts of all the devotees there.

ajanu-lambita bhuja, kamala-nayana
yata kichu isvarera sarva sai-lakshana
(Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita: Madhya-lila, 17.108)

“He has arms that extend to His knees, and His eyes are like the petals of a lotus. In His person are all the transcendental symptoms of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.”

And even though we don’t have the eyes to see Him, he can mercifully see us. If we see with the eyes of faith we can understand the auspiciousness of this event. Everything about it overflows with happiness- the devotees were so happy to make all the arrangements for His appearance, so they are all associating and meeting again with some service connections. And some responsible service is created with it.

The beauty of Sri Sri Guru Gaurachandra cannot be properly described, and the same goes for the hospitality and affectionate reception we had from our Salt Lake City family. But we can see clearly and happily how the flag of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math shines resplendently there and all over the world to give shelter to those who need it.

I pray that the readers will forgive any offenses i commit in my attempt to glorify this beautiful festival.

Dear devotees and friends,

Please join us for this wonderful and important two-day festival celebration. Sri Krishna appeared at midnight thus there will be a beautiful arotik and sankirtan at midnight and then an anukalpa feast (without grains). Saturday the festivitites will include the glorification of Srila Prabhupad, His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj and a sumptuous feast. We hope that everyone will be able to attend this most auspicious celebration. If you would like to do some seva please send an email to info@sevaashram.org, or consider giving a donation for the seva of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridharijiu here.

Yours in the Lord’s Service,

The following is an excerpt from Sri Guru and His Grace by His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj:
It is stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam (10.31.9):

tava kathamritam tapta-jivanam
kavibhir iditam kalmashapaham
sravana-mangalam srimad atatam
bhuvi grinanti ye bhuri-da janah

“O, Krishna, the nectar of Your words and the narrations of Your pastimes give life to us, who are always suffering in this material world. This nectar is broadcast all over the world by great souls, and it removes all sinful reactions. It is all-auspicious and filled with spiritual power. Those who spread this message of Godhead are certainly doing the greatest relief work for human society and are the most magnanimous welfare workers.”

This is what is necessary and this is what is universal. Everyone can be satisfied to the highest degree in their hearts only by the nectar of Krishna’s words and the nectarine descriptions of His activities. This is because Krishna is raso vai sah, the reservoir of all pleasure, and akhila rasamrita murti, ecstasy Himself.

Invitation to Lord Baladev’s Appearance Day Festival

  The Appearance of Lord Baladev
Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 6:30 pm in Soquel
5:30 pm in San Jose
Dear Friend of the Ashram,

Please join us Thursday, August 2nd at six-thirty in the evening for a grand festival in celebration of Lord Baladev’s Divine Appearance Day. Since Srila Bhakti Pavan Janardan Maharaj is currently in Salt Lake City,  Sripad Sarvabhavana Prabhu will lead the program. Please come for sankirtan and to honor a sumptuous feast prepared by our famous cooks with love and devotion for the satisfaction of Lord Baladev.

Yours in the Lord’s service,
Sushila Devi Dasi

~~~~~~
The following is an excerpt from one of Srila Janardan Maharaj’s morning classes last week at the Soquel Seva Ashram:
…That is why Nityananda Prabhu is also avadhut; Balaram is a little avadhut-ish. For instance, Krishna goes to fight on the side of the Pandavas. Well, Balaram is the guru who taught club fighting to Duryodhana. Duryodhana is his disciple so Balaram also has a little partiality to the Kurus. But he is not going to fight against Krishna. Instead he goes on pilgrimage rather than fighting in the battle of Kurukshetra. He is not going to take the side of the Kurus and he is not going to fight against Krishna.
…When Bhima fights agasint Duryodhana, Krishna gives some indication, He slaps his thigh. Bhima hits Duryodhana in the thigh and breaks his leg, more or less. Then the fight is over and Balaram is furious. He practically wants to kill Bhima, “You hit him below the waist, that’s not proper in ksatriya warfare.” He is furious. So Balaram, he is also a little avadhut. He is not considering, “Krishna is the Lord and these Kurus are unwanted. They are all being uprooted because they are actually usurpers and the Pandavas are the proper recipients of the throne. The world has to be cleared of the Kurus’ unlawful dynasty.” Balaram’s a little different…
Balaram, he’s unusual. He gets somewhat intoxicated with varuni and he talks to the Jamuna. His activities are not always completely sober. And Nityananda Prabhu has that quality of avadhut. So Guru Maharaj says the first 14 verses [of Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita], in addition to offering prayers, they are expressing ontology so you can understand who is Mahaprabhu, who is Nityananda Prabhu, and who are all their followers. Who are all these personalities? So you can understand. Ontology is, if you understand the source then you’ll understand the qualities of the person.
Please join us Thursday, July 19th at six in the evening in Santa Cruz to honor Srila Sridhar Maharaj on the holy occasion of his Divine Disappearance Day by hearing from Srila Bhakti Pavan Janardan Maharaj. The program in San Jose will begin at 5:30 pm.
The following is the Pranati Dasakam: Ten Prayers in glorification of Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, composed by Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj:
~~~0~~~

naumi sri-gurupadabjam, yatirajesvaresvaram
sri-bhaktiraksakam srila-sridhara-svaminam sada

I eternally offer my humble obeisances unto the lotus feet of my Most Worshipful Divine Master, the Supreme Emperor of the Sannyasi Kings: Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Swami. (1)

sudirghonnata-diptangam, supibya-vapusam param
tridanda-tulasimala-, gopichandana-bhusitam

He possesses a lofty, dignified, divinely effulgent, incomparable holy form, so charming to behold. Adorned with Gopichandan and a necklace of Tulasi beads, he holds the triple staff of the Vaisnava ascetics. (2)

achintya-pratibha-snigdham, divyajnana-prabhakaram
vedadi-sarvvasastranam, samanjasya-vidhayakam

Although he possesses the qualification of inconceivable potency, he is full of the utmost affection. All the ten directions are illuminated by the effulgence of his supramundane unalloyed perception. He is the dispenser of the genuine proper harmonious adjustment of all the Scriptures — the Vedas, the Vedanta, the Upanishads, the Puranas, etc. headed by the Srimad-Bhagavata-Purana (Srimad Bhagavatam) which holds equal importance with the Vedas. (3)

gaudiyacharyya-ratnanam, ujjvalam ratna-kaustubham
sri-chaitanya-mahapremon-, mattalinam siromanim

In the necklace of the jewels of the Acharyyas in the Sri Gaudiya Sampradaya he shines resplendently like the brilliant Kaustubha gem, and he is radiant in his glory as the Crown-jewel of the bumblebee-devotees who are mad in the Supreme Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s love supreme. I eternally offer my obeisances unto him, my Most Worshipable Divine Master. (4)

gayatry-artha-vinirjyasam, gita-gudhartha-gauravam
stotraratnadi-samrddham, prapanna-jivanamrtam
apurvagrantha-sambharam, bhaktanam hrd-rasayanam
krpaya yena dattam tam, naumi karunya-sundaram

By his grace, he brought to full bloom the deepest underlying purport of Gayatri, the Mother of the Vedas; by his grace he opened the hidden treasure-house of the glorious internal purport of Srimad Bhagavad-gita — and he distributed these gifts to one and all, even the lowest of the low. He revealed the supreme holy book (Sri Prapanna-jivanamrtam, which is a treasure of many types of precious gems of holy stanzas (the wealth of holy stanzas compiled from Stotra-ratna by Sri Yamunacharya and many other valuable sources) sung by the Lord and His devotees. He revealed an unprecedented collection of holy books (Search for Sri Krishna–Reality the Beautiful, Sri Guru and His Grace, The Golden Volcano of Divine Love, etc.) that are the very life nectar for the devotees’ hearts and spiritual senses — he gave these gifts to the world. I eternally offer my obeisances unto him, my Most Worshipful Divine Master, the beautiful Deity of mercy incarnate. (5-6)

sankirttana-maharasarasabdhes chandramanibham
sambhati vitaran visve gaura-krsnam ganaih saha

He revels in his full-blown splendour as along with and through his intimate servitors he distributes in the entire universe the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Gaura-Krishna, the moon risen from the nectar ocean of the Grand Dance of the congregational chanting of Sri Krishna’s Holy Name. (7)

dhamani sri-navadvipe, guptagovardhane subhe
visvavisruta-chaitanya-, sarasvata-mathottamam

In Sri Nabadwip Dham, which is non-differet from the holy abode of Sri Vrndavan, His Divine Grace established the world-renowned Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math at Sri Koladwip, the selfsame ‘Hidden Govardhan Hill’ (Gupta-Govardhan), which is the sacred place where all offenses are absolved (Aparadha-bhanjana-pat). (8)

sthapayitva-gurun gaura-, radha-govindavigrahan
prakasayati chatmanam, seva-samsiddhi-vigrahah

There, he revealed the beautiful devotional service of the Worshipful Deities of Sri Sri Guru-Gauranga-Gandharva-Govindasundar, divinely manifesting his very self as the Deity of service in perfection. (9)

gaura-srirupa-siddhanta-, divya-dharadharamgurum
sri-bhakti-raksakam devam, sridharam pranamamy aham

Eternally do I offer my obeisances unto the holy lotus feet of my Divine Master Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj who carries the divine current of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati coming in the line of Sri Rupa, the object of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu’s divine affection. (10)

sraddhaya yah pathen nityam, pranati-dasakam muda
visate ragamargesu, tasya bhakta-prasadatah

One who with pure faith happily sings this Pranati-dasakam every day, gains the qualification to serve the Supreme Lord on the path of spontaneous love (Raga-marga), by the grace of the associate-servitors of that Srila Gurudeva.

Devotees from the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Seva Ashram attended the second annual Rejuvenation Festival in Santa Cruz’s San Lorenzo Park. Many friends and guests visited our lovely booth and were very happy to talk with the devotees. We met many fortunate souls who have already had a connection with Srila Govinda Maharaj or Srila Prabhupad. Bilwa Mangal Prabhu arranged for the booth and Sripad Parvat Maharaj, Vaidehi Didi, Dinabandhu Prabhu, Ratan Krishna Prabhu, Nevine Krishna Prabhu, Vidura Krishna Prabhu, Ananta Rupa Prabhu, Lila Shakti Didi, and Premanidhi Prabhu, all helped to make the program successful.

We hope that everyone who met us at the festival will make the endeavor to come visit the Seva Ashram for the Sunday Feast. Please don’t hesitate. If you can do something wonderful right away, why put it off?

The following is an excerpt from The Search for Sri Krishna: Reality the Beautiful by Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj. You can read a much longer excerpt on the main international website of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math: click here.

Their Divine Lordships Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridhari

at 6 pm in Soquel

Please join us to honor the anniversary of the day that His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj installed Their Divine Lordships Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridhari in Soquel, California. The following is an excerpt from Srila Govinda Maharaj’s discourse that day, May 19, 1996:

“The manifestation of the Deity gives us love for the Lord because the Deity’s manifestation is very near and very close to our mental position. Within this mundane environment we are habituated to be with our relatives. Now the Lord, in his manifestation as the Deity, is present here among us in the form of our relative. The Lord is so attractive and so sweet and so beautiful and so ecstatic and He is very near and very dear to human society, human beings and human experience.

Within human society and within the human form, love and affection are most developed. Why is the highest development of love and affection found only in the human form? Because the human form is the original form of the divine Sweet Absolute.”

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

By the grace of Srila Gurudeva and after a long wait we have at last been able to inaugurate a regular kids class in Soquel and San Jose. Following the success of our 2011 summer camp, the affectionate push to begin a regular kids class came by the desire of Rasangi Didi, mother of Murali Mohan Prabhu, and grandmother of Anjali and Gopal. Because of her concern and hopes for her grand kids and their friends to have a greater opportunity to hear the teachings of Srila Gurudeva and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, we are now seeing this beautiful kids program begin to bloom.

The first class was given by Srila B.P. Janardan Maharaj and the  temple room was full of kids. He began by reading and discussing The Golden Volcano of Divine Love. Subsequent classes have been given by Jairam Prabhu, father of Lavanika and Nabh, and by Murali Mohan Prabhu. These classes have been going on twice a month now since October, alternating every two weeks between Soquel and San Jose.

Beginning in April, weather permitting, we are looking forward to offering the kids class every Sunday concurrent with the temple program, beginning after arotik. It will be held outside in front of Srila Gurudeva’s Pushpa Samadhi Mandir, under the trees.

Srila Gurudeva has always shown us His love and affection for all the children, and he often expressed His hopes for them to grow happily in Krishna Consciousness. We pray to offer these activities to His Lotus Feet, that He may be pleased, and that we may always remember Him and be instruments for His Divine Service.

Jaya Gurudeva!

For many years Vidura Krishna Prabhu led a popular weekly youth class. Now he has resumed leading one of the evening programs; however, the new class it is not only for young people. It has a new theme. Every week he covers a chapter of Sri Sri Prapanna Jivanamritam, which is a very special book full of scriptural quotations about the six limbs of surrender. Everyone in the class is memorizing the six limbs of surrender (acceptance of the favorable, rejection of the unfavorable, full confidence in the Lord’s protection, embracing the Lord’s guardianship, full self-surrender and surrender in humility) and takes turns reading some verses. Vidura Krishna Prabhu shares insightful comments that he has heard from our guru varga about the verses and their themes.  After this book is finished he says the class will read Sri Sikshastakam (Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s eight prayers) and then the ten offenses to the Holy Name. His goal is to review the basics of Krishna Consciousness philosophy so that we can apply them in our daily practicing lives.

Invitation to Srila Govinda Maharaj’s Divine Disappearance Day

April 4, 201210 am (main program) and 5:30pm in Santa Cruz
5:30 pm in San Jose

Dear Friend of the Ashram,

We humbly invite you to come give honor and remembrance to our dearest Gurudev, Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj on the anniversary of his departure. The pain of separation still hangs over us but in each other’s association we can remember his wonderful activities, glorious qualities, and how his affectionate mood touched all of us.

It is said that the guru is more near and dear to us than God Himself. God has many things to deal with, but guru is concerned only with our welfare. In this way our lives have been forever changed by the auspicious association of such a great Vaishnava Acharya as Srila Govinda Maharaj. We will be very grateful for your association on this important occasion.

Srila Janardan Maharaj returns from India soon and will lead the program in Santa Cruz, which will start at 10 am at Srila Gurudev’s Pushpa Samadhi. Although that will be the main program in Santa Cruz, we will gather again at 5:30 pm in the temple for kirtan and additional discourse of Gurudev’s glories. The program in San Jose will start at 5:30 pm.

Sincerely,
Hasyapriya das
