 I would like to cordially invite you and your kind family and friends to join with us in celebrating the Anniversary of the Auspicious advent of our most beloved Lord Sri Krishna which will be observed this year on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 (Sri Krishna Janmastami) for the pleasure of Their Lordships Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridhari and the assembled Devotees.

You are also most cordially invited to join the observance of Sri Nandotsav (Nanda Maharaj’s Celebration) which will be celebrated on the following morning (Saturday, August 24th at 10:30) which is also the Auspicious Appearance day of His Divine Grace, Om Vishnupad Sri Srila A.C. Sushila devi dasiDear Friend of the Ashram,

This coming Sunday is Sri Krishna Janmastami, the Divine Appearance Day of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. The program in San Jose starts at 5:30 pm and in Santa Cruz at 6:30 pm, and will culminate in a midnight kirtan in Santa Cruz, followed by an anukalpa feast. The following day there will be a daytime program at 10:30 in Santa Cruz with a big feast in observation of Nandotsav and the Divine Appearance Day of Srila Prabupad, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj.

We will also be having our Janmastami in the Park program this Saturday in Sunnyvale at Ponderosa Park from 11 am – 2 pm. We have hosted this event several years in a row now and we hope you can join us this year. Please bring along your friends and family for a lovely day in the park with kirtan, krishna katha, and prasadam.

Sri Krishna Janmastami will be celebrated on Monday, August 18th in San Jose and Soquel. Please join our community for festivities throughout the evening culminating in arotik at midnight in Soquel. In San Jose the celebration will end at 9 pm.Monday is a full fast day. After the midnight arotikanukalpa prasadam will be served. The big feast will be the following morning at noon. Please come back Tuesday at 11 am to honor Nandotsav and the divine appearance day of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj Prabhupad, who so mercifully introduced the West to Krishna Consciousness.Please come to help with decorations and other preparations if you can. (Srimad Bhagavatam: 10.3.7-8)

     “The demigods and great saintly persons showered flowers in a joyous mood, and clouds gathered in the sky and very mildly thundered, making sounds like those of the ocean’s waves. Then the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vishnu, who is situated in the core of everyone’s heart, appeared from the heart of Devaki in the dense darkness of night, like the full moon rising on the eastern horizon, because Devaki was of the same category as Sri Krishna.”

Those who are not in full knowledge that the appearance and disappearance of the Lord are transcendental (janma karma ca me divyam [Srimad Bhagavad-gita: 4.9]) are sometimes surprised that the Supreme Personality of Godhead can take birth like an ordinary child. Actually, however, the Lord’s birth is never ordinary. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is already situated within the core of everyone’s heart as antaryami, the Supersoul. Thus because He was present in full potency in Devaki’s heart, He was also able to appear outside her body….
As stated in Srimad Bhagavad-gita, the Lord is aja, unborn, and He is the supreme controller of everything. Nonetheless, He appeared as the child of Devaki. This verse describes the inconceivable potency of the Lord, who appeared like the full moon. Understanding the special significance of the appearance of the Supreme Godhead, one should never regard Him as having taken birth like an ordinary child.

The following is an excerpt from Sri Guru and His Grace by His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj:
It is stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam (10.31.9):

tava kathamritam tapta-jivanam
kavibhir iditam kalmashapaham
sravana-mangalam srimad atatam
bhuvi grinanti ye bhuri-da janah


“O, Krishna, the nectar of Your words and the narrations of Your pastimes give life to us, who are always suffering in this material world. This nectar is broadcast all over the world by great souls, and it removes all sinful reactions. It is all-auspicious and filled with spiritual power. Those who spread this message of Godhead are certainly doing the greatest relief work for human society and are the most magnanimous welfare workers.”

This is what is necessary and this is what is universal. Everyone can be satisfied to the highest degree in their hearts only by the nectar of Krishna’s words and the nectarine descriptions of His activities. This is because Krishna is raso vai sah, the reservoir of all pleasure, and akhila rasamrita murti, ecstasy Himself.

An informal morning discourse by Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj at the Dum Dum Park Temple in Kolkata, India. Later in the day His Divine Grace did indeed accept the invitation mentioned in this talk, and went to lead the Festival at our Kaikhali Temple, near Kolkata Airport.

“We will take anukalpa (a small amount of non-grains food) on Ekadasi, twice we are taking. But on Janmastami we are not taking that. On Janmastami we are completely fasting.”

“Vedavyasa very cleverly expressed the character of Lord Krishna… Then we can understand what is the position of Lord Krishna and what is the position of Krishna’s Rasa-lila. First we will see Him like a sun, from far, the fireball. The sun is a big fireball, but lookable from far, not near. Krishna’s character is like that.”
