Children’s Programs at the Seva Ashram

Posted by Hasyapriya Das on Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 in Development Plans, Videos | Comments (0)

At Seva Ashram the spiritual education of our children is important to us. Just like the flowers in our garden can become spiritual flowers when offered to the Lord, so also our children can become spiritual children when we see them in relation to Krishna’s service. But how will they develop that service connection? For some answers, watch the video…

Braja Mohini didi

This past summer we had another auspicious gathering of vaisnava families coming to the Ashram for the annual kids camp. Braja Mohini Devi Dasi graciously facilitated the four day camp festivities. Of course many devotees stepped up to offer their knowledge and expertise for the benefit of all the children (and adults!) involved. All of this was possible under the affectionate guidance of our beloved Srila Bhakti Pavan Janardan Maharaj. A huge thank you to all who participated!

Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24

The last two days of camp were a blast! On Saturday we had a bake sale, learned the history of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, made puppets, and ended the day with a bonfire at the beach. Srila Bhakti Pavan Janardan Maharaj and Sripad Parvat Maharaj came to the bonfire and led everyone in chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra.

Sunday we honored all the children at an awards ceremony during the Sunday Feast. Srila Janardan Maharaj gave each camper an award for their special skills and contributions to the camp. After the feast we headed to the archery range to shoot bows and arrows…a wonderful way to end another wonderful kids camp at the Soquel Seva Ashram.

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

By the grace of Srila Gurudeva and after a long wait we have at last been able to inaugurate a regular kids class in Soquel and San Jose. Following the success of our 2011 summer camp, the affectionate push to begin a regular kids class came by the desire of Rasangi Didi, mother of Murali Mohan Prabhu, and grandmother of Anjali and Gopal. Because of her concern and hopes for her grand kids and their friends to have a greater opportunity to hear the teachings of Srila Gurudeva and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, we are now seeing this beautiful kids program begin to bloom.

The first class was given by Srila B.P. Janardan Maharaj and the  temple room was full of kids. He began by reading and discussing The Golden Volcano of Divine Love. Subsequent classes have been given by Jairam Prabhu, father of Lavanika and Nabh, and by Murali Mohan Prabhu. These classes have been going on twice a month now since October, alternating every two weeks between Soquel and San Jose.

Beginning in April, weather permitting, we are looking forward to offering the kids class every Sunday concurrent with the temple program, beginning after arotik. It will be held outside in front of Srila Gurudeva’s Pushpa Samadhi Mandir, under the trees.

Srila Gurudeva has always shown us His love and affection for all the children, and he often expressed His hopes for them to grow happily in Krishna Consciousness. We pray to offer these activities to His Lotus Feet, that He may be pleased, and that we may always remember Him and be instruments for His Divine Service.

Jaya Gurudeva!

Kids Camp at the Soquel Ashram 2011

Posted by Hasyapriya Das on Monday, December 19th, 2011 in 2011 Photo Gallery | Comments (0)

Our three day camp teaches kids the practices of Krishna Consciousness by engaging them in play, cooking, hiking, and music. Qualified members of our community teach the kids songs, traditional instruments, stories, and more. Some families camp out in tents overnight, while others come only during the daytime. The more kids attend the merrier. If you are interested in participating, please consider bringing your child to our kid’s classes every other week. For more information please call us.
